Please read through the directions before starting the process. I cannot stress enough the need for proper eyewear. The mask is to avoid breathing in dust as you are grinding. Do not rush through the procedures, take your time and you will be rewarded in the end.
STEP 3 - demilling the TRIGGER HOUSING:
Almost there.
The front tabs have 2 spot welds.
We begin by cutting off any excess receiver. The first cut is in front of the tabs and over the slots. Slow down as you get closer to the bottom. Don’t accidentally cut into the trigger housing.
Don’t cut into the trigger housing.
Now begin to cut on the other side, directly over the slot.
Mark the inner rear at the location indicated. This will be your cut line.
Other side
Make the cut. Slow down when you are close to the rear housing. See picture.
Clamp the rear original receiver only in the vise and tighten. Top section only. It will start to bend. Pay close attention to the picture. Only the cut receiver is in the vise NOT the lower housing.
Notice how the receiver is bending inside.
It will end up looking like this after it is squeezed in the vise..
Finish cutting along the initial line to fully split the two halves.
Here the cuts are complete and we now turn out attention to the welds on the rear.
Grind away at these two points.
There is a spot weld on the left side of the housing. See where I’m pointing.
Place back in the vise as before but now the lower portion of the receiver and squeeze harder to force a full bend of the original receiver. This kit’s spot weld came off easy, if your kit offers difficulties, than you would want to grind the original receiver from the inside to weaken the joint. Only the original receiver and never the housing.
If you need to, grind some more of the original receiver welds from the rear portion until the receiver fully bends, Remove from the housing.
Cut the remaining top portion of the original receiver flush with the housing.
It would look like this. The blue is paint from the saw blade.
There are two spot welds on the top of the housing as indicated.
Grind the inner top section This is done to aid in separating from the housing.
Here’s a better picture showing where the grinding occurred.
Insert a screwdriver and bend the original receiver that is spot welded and rebend back and forth to remove. The only purpose of this is to reduce the amount of metal that is to be grinded away. If your fortunate, than you’ll be left with just the weld point to grind off. I used needle nose pliers here.
Here’s a picture with the excess receiver removed. Makes for less grinding. If you have trouble removing the metal, it just means that you will have to grind more off.
Grind off and it should look like this when done.
You are now done with the rear portion of the housing. Let’s return to the front tabs again.
As mentioned at the beginning of this section there are two spot welds. Grind away the original receiver metal. As you get closer to the housing, slow down and be careful not to over do it and grind too much. Just grind off the receiver and not into the housing.
Finished!
The only item left is the sling swivel that would be best to do once you have the replacement receiver in hand.
